Re:  Re-Opening School Year 2020-2021

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s):

I hope this letter finds you and yours safe and healthy, as we all try to forge our way through the issues brought on by the pandemic.  Buckeye Union High School District Administration sent an email out to parents/guardians on 7/15/20, outlining what we have accomplished as a district and what the re-opening looks like with the school year about to begin.  On 7/16/20, a survey was emailed out with two options available to district students, at least through the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.  If you have not seen the emails in your Inbox, please check your Junk folder in your email.

I am reaching out to provide information on Option B – students enrolling in BUHSD Institute of Online Learning (LCOnline) for the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.

We have two new teachers starting with us this year – Ms. Lisa Dalrymple, who will be our English teacher, and Mr. Tim Newsom, our new Science teacher.  Mr. Jacob Hand is starting his third year as our Math teacher.  We are still in the planning stages, but it is anticipated that daily dedicated time will be scheduled during the school week for teachers to help our online stdents, even though students will have 24/7 access to their courses in Edgenuity. The teachers will also continue to monitor/facilitate classes in the evenings, weekends, and during breaks.  We will be posting schedules (http://www.buhsd.org/learningcenter) as soon as they are finalized.

All three teachers will not only facilitate the noted core classes, but they will also be facilitating other Edgenuity classes.  Since it is anticipated that traditional campus teachers may also be helping with course monitoring and facilitating, as soon as solid information can be compiled, a Teacher Responsibility Chart will be created providing you with the name of the specific teacher (who will be responsible for that particular course), along with teacher’s contact information.

Historically, we send out Registration Packets prior to school starting.  Then we require the student and  his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) to attend a mandatory Orientation the day before school begins.  However, this year, we are required to make necessary adjustments. Due to the circumstances, your child will need to go to his/her home campus (or at EFHS, sign the Registration Forms electronically) and go through the registration process.  It will be most helpful to let school staff know that your student will be a full-time online student through LCOnline.  At Registration, students should receive their laptop, the Registration Packet, and student ID card, as well as the LCOnline Course Enrollment Application to be an online student.  The top portion (contact information) needs to be filled in legibly and the bottom signed by the student and parent/guardian.  There is no need to complete the course information, as we will use students’ first semester schedules from their home campus, making every effort to enroll the student in the same courses through Edgenuity.  The LCOnline Course Enrollment Application must be received for online enrollment.  Please feel free to email it to the following individuals:  myself ([email protected]), Ms. Lees ([email protected]), and/or Ms. Tellez ([email protected]).  If you did not receive the LCOnline Course Enrollment Application at Registration, the same fillable form will be located on the LCOnline webpage (http://www.buhsd.org/learningcenter).

Below are dates/times for registration on the traditional campuses:

On the new District website, you will see videos that Ms. Lees has created that will be most helpful in learning some of Edgenuity’s features.  In addition, there will be an Orientation Video that will be posted that you and your student need to watch. We have also included a Q&A Handout, addressing some of the most commonly asked questions.  Since we are not able to conduct an in-person Orientation, we are hopeful the videos will answer any questions you may have.  To make sure all inquiries are answered, we will be scheduling a Teams Q&A, per traditional school site, on Tuesday, August 4th, 2020.  You will be able to access us via live Teams link from the District’s website, at the denoted times for your student’s home campus. If there is a specific question regarding your student, please email Ms. Lees and myself, as the Teams Orientation will be live, and privacy will not be protected.  If there is a question about a class or a new elective needs to be chosen, Ms. Lees (Learning Center Counselor) will reach out directly to the home campus guidance counselor and the student to gather additional information.

Please continue checking your email and the BUHSD Learning Center’s webpage for updated information.

I just want to conclude by stating that we will do everything possible to assist your student as they go through Edgenuity classes.  If you need anything, please reach out to Ms. Lees at ([email protected]) or myself at ([email protected]). We are all in this craziness together, and we can get through it together.

Sincerely,

Karen Sanders, Ed.D.
